In Burkina Faso, the armed forces announce that they have “ 

neutralized

 ” an important member of the Islamic State group in the Greater Sahara.

Abdel-Malick was number two of the EIGS in the country.

He was killed during an operation in the Sahel region on January 21, along with several of his lieutenants.

Its neutralization represents a big step in the fight against terrorism and the reconquest of localities under jihadist control, particularly in the north of Burkina Faso, declares the official information agency.

The official Burkinabè information agency provides details on the operation.

Escorted by other terrorist fighters on motorcycles, the procession of the EIGS cadre is spotted by Burkinabè air force aircraft.

Bombing raid 

The convoy was bombed from the air while stopping under some shrubs.

The observation made by the soldiers on the ground establishes a toll of five terrorists killed, including Abdel Malick.

Motorcycles and weapons were also destroyed.

Recruit training

Specializing in attacks on military convoys and kidnappings, Harouna Oulel 

alias

Abdel Mallick had taken part in several attacks against defense and security forces on Burkinabe territory since 2019 according to security sources.

He also trained recruits in the handling of weapons according to sources cited by the official information agency.

A price was put on his head for the sum of 150 million CFA francs.
