Israel proposed to Hamas, with the mediation of Qatar and Egypt

, a two-month pause

in fighting and operations in Gaza in exchange for the release of all the hostages, the American media

Axios

reported on Monday , citing Israeli sources.

This proposal

would not imply the end of the war in Gaza,

but rather a second truce after the one in November - lasting one week - that allowed the release of kidnapped people taken to that territory after the unprecedented attack on October 7 in Israel, in exchange of at least 240 Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israel.

According to the Israeli authorities - who are facing pressure from the families of those kidnapped - 132 hostages remain in the Gaza Strip, of which

28 are believed to be dead.

Israel's proposal provides for the return of hostages alive in several phases

, the first of which is for women and men over 60 years of age,

according to Axios, which cites two Israeli officials as a source.

The female soldiers would follow, the men under 60 who are not military, male soldiers, and finally the rest of the hostages.

Under that plan, Israel and Hamas must agree in advance on the number of Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for each hostage according to their category, and then the name of each Palestinian.

The agreement would also not mean the end of the war between Israel and Hamas, nor a long-term political solution, but rather a movement of Israeli troops out of the main cities of Gaza, and the gradual return of hundreds of thousands of displaced people from the north to southern Gaza, according to the American media.
