A couple of months ago, the municipal council in Köping decided that all municipally employed coffee drinkers – home care staff, teachers, social workers, park workers, officials at the municipal hall, yes everyone who drinks coffee at work – would start paying a fee of SEK 50 a month.

The proposal was put forward by the political majority, S+KD+V+C, after the meals unit flagged that it might be necessary to withdraw the milk in the school restaurants.

- Then the question was raised whether it was reasonable that the school children should not get milk for their meals, but the staff free coffee, says municipal councilor Andreas Trygg (V).

Too high administrative costs

There was no milk freeze in the schools, but the coffee fee, on the other hand, the politicians chose to go ahead with.

But a review of how the introduction would go about has now meant that the politicians have lifted the decision on the fee.

The administrative costs would be too high, as efforts would be required for each employee.

It would also be difficult for the payroll office, which administers four municipalities, to handle.
