China News Service, Beijing, January 21 (Reporter Chen Su) China’s first cold wave in 2024 will hit.

On the 21st, the Central Meteorological Observatory issued a cold wave yellow warning, a heavy snow blue warning, and a strong wind blue warning. It is expected that the cold wave will continue to affect central and eastern China, bringing strong winds and cooling weather, and "blizzard mode" will be activated in many parts of the south.

On the 20th, strong winds and cooling weather occurred in Inner Mongolia, North China and other places, and rain and snow occurred in Northeast China, Shaanxi and other places.

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that in the next three days, the cold wave will continue to affect central and eastern China, bringing strong winds and cooling weather. There will be widespread rain and snow in the south, and localized freezing rain.

Affected by the strong cold air, it is expected that from 8:00 on the 21st to 20:00 on the 23rd, parts of Inner Mongolia, Northeast, Northwest, North China, Huanghuai, Jianghuai, Jiangnan, Southwest, and South China will successively cool down by 8 to 10°C.

Among them, the temperature in some areas in eastern Jilin, eastern Liaoning, central and northern Shanxi, central and southern Zhejiang, and northern Fujian can reach 12 to 16°C.

On the 23rd, the minimum temperature line of 0°C will press southward to northern Guangxi and northern Guangdong. On the 23rd and 24th, Jiangnan, South China, Guizhou and other places will experience the lowest temperatures during this cold wave. Most of Jiangnan and Guizhou will have daily lowest temperatures. The temperature can reach -7℃ to -1℃, and the daily minimum temperature in South China can reach 0℃ to 7℃.

As the temperature drops rapidly, the rain and snow weather in the south will also change the phase of rain and snow, turning on the "blizzard mode".

The Central Meteorological Observatory predicts that from 8:00 on the 21st to 8:00 on the 22nd, there will be heavy to heavy snowfall in some areas of southwestern Hubei, central and western and northern Hunan, central and southwestern Guizhou, and eastern Chongqing.

Among them, heavy snowfall (20 to 22 mm) occurred in some areas in western Hunan and northeastern Guizhou.

The new snow depth in some of the above-mentioned areas is 3 to 8 centimeters, and it can reach more than 10 centimeters in some places.

From 8:00 on the 22nd to 8:00 on the 23rd, there was heavy snow (5 to 9 mm) in parts of southern Hunan, central and southern Jiangxi, western Fujian, northeastern Guangxi, and northern Guangdong.

The new snow depth in some of the above-mentioned areas is 2 to 6 centimeters, and it can reach more than 8 centimeters in some places.

From the 22nd to the 26th, there was localized freezing rain in Guizhou, western and southern Hunan, and northern Guangxi.

Sun Jun, chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, said that although this round of cold wave is not as intense as the cold wave in December 2023, it still has a certain intensity and has a wide impact, focusing on the southern region. Overall, the minimum temperature has dropped less than the maximum temperature. The temperature drop should be significant.

The freezing rain during this process was not very strong, but we must also pay attention to the adverse effects of freezing rain on transportation, energy supply, power transmission, etc.
