At least 25 people were killed as a result of shelling of the market in the Tekstilshchik microdistrict in the Kirovsky district of Donetsk, which was carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to the head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, about 20 more people were injured, including two children who are in a condition of moderate severity.

The head of the region emphasized that the attack occurred on Sunday, when the market was most crowded.

“All victims are provided with the necessary medical care.

Among them are seriously wounded, many have penetrating wounds in the area of vital organs, traumatic amputation of limbs,” Pushilin wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the block was hit by a combined strike from 152 and 155 mm caliber artillery from the Kurakhovsky and Krasnogorovsky directions.

In turn, the mayor of Donetsk Alexey Kulemzin called the incident another dark day in the history of the city.

“Ukrainian neo-fascists cynically fired at a busy place in the city, where a large number of peaceful people gather at the same time on a weekend.

For their failures at the front, they decided to take revenge on the defenseless residents of Donetsk,” he wrote on Telegram.

In addition, the night before it was reported that Donetsk was being shelled with cluster munitions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called the shelling of Donetsk on the morning of January 21 a barbaric terrorist attack against the civilian population of Russia.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a deliberate attack from multiple launch rocket systems on the market and shops in the Tekstilshchik quarter.

It is noted that Ukrainian formations carried out six artillery attacks targeting crowded places.

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized, the Investigative Committee of Russia has begun an investigation into the crime, and all those involved in this and other terrorist attacks will suffer inevitable punishment.

At the same time, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the shelling was carried out from Kyiv-controlled Avdiivka using weapons supplied by the West.

“All this once again confirms his direct involvement in the conflict and makes him complicit in the criminal acts of the Zelensky regime, which has once again demonstrated inhumanity and hatred towards innocent people.

The Kyiv leaders call them “special individuals” and are ready to kill them mercilessly,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Diplomats stated that the West’s desire to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia at the expense of Ukraine is pushing the Kiev regime to “increasingly reckless steps,” including acts of terrorism, massive violations of international humanitarian law and war crimes.

“Russia calls on all responsible governments and relevant international structures to strongly condemn this brutal terrorist attack.

Their silence will mean tacit approval of the murders of civilians and encourage Ukrainian neo-Nazis to commit even more bloody atrocities,” the Foreign Ministry said.

As the department emphasized, such terrorist attacks clearly demonstrate the lack of political will in Kyiv for peace and resolving the conflict through diplomatic methods.

“The need to achieve all the goals and objectives of the special military operation is obvious.

Security threats and acts of terrorism should not be committed from the territory of Ukraine,” the Foreign Ministry summed up.

In turn, the first deputy permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, expressed the opinion that the shelling of Donetsk will become one of the key topics of the UN Security Council meeting requested by Russia for Monday, January 22, on the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.

“I have no doubt that this next heinous crime of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will become one of the central topics of the UN Security Council meeting we requested for January 22 with the participation of Sergei Viktorovich Lavrov,” Polyansky wrote in Telegram.

Along with the shelling of Donetsk on January 21, attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike the territory of Crimea were recorded.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, at about 14:00 and 14:30 Moscow time, three Ukrainian guided missiles were destroyed over the Black Sea near the western coast of the Crimean Peninsula.
