The Social Democrats will not support the Centre Party, the Left Party and the Green Party, all of which want to bring down the climate minister because of the government's climate action plan.

The Social Democrats have decided to abstain from voting.

The announcement means that the climate minister is likely to sit safely during Wednesday's vote of no confidence, as requested by the Center Party. In order for Romina Pourmokhtari to be forced to resign, a majority of the members of the Riksdag must support a declaration of no confidence, i.e. at least 175 members. The Centre Party, the Left Party and the Green Party together have 66 members.

However, a yes from the Social Democrats alone would not have been enough to force the climate minister to resign. It would also have required two Tidö members to switch sides.
