The Council of Ministers agreed on Tuesday to declassify the secret documentation relating to the tapping of the phone of the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonés, through the Pegasus programme. The head of the Court of Instruction number 29 of Barcelona had requested in November, through a request, this confidential information about the use of the software by the CNI on the ERC politician.

"The main party interested in clarifying this issue is the government," said the coalition's spokeswoman, Pilar Alegría, who recalled that it was the central government itself that "put this matter in the hands of the National Court". "I will also tell you that in no case does it affect national security," he added about this "partial" revelation.

The declassification took place before the former director of the CNI, Paz Esteban, who was dismissed as a result of this case, was taken to testify as a result of the investigation. Aragonés, who was spied on in 2020 when he was vice-president of the Generalitat, had filed a complaint against the CNI.
