Regarding the election of Mr. Li Ching-de of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the presidential election in Taiwan, at a meeting of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) held on the 16th, there were voices that welcomed the continuation of the government, but there was an opinion that preparations for a so-called "Taiwan emergency" should be promoted because tensions with China may increase.

In Taiwan's presidential election, which was held on the 13th of this month, Mr. Li Ching-de of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which has shown a stance against Chinese pressure, was elected.

At the "Taiwan Policy Study Project Team" of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) held on the 16th, opinions were exchanged on the election results, and the members in attendance expressed the opinion that they welcomed the continuation of the DPP administration's line.

On the other hand, former State Minister for Foreign Affairs Kaoru Suzuki, who chaired the meeting, said, "Taiwan is facing various pressures from China, and we will do our utmost to protect the people without ruling out all possibilities."

In the future, the project team will proceed with discussions on the protection of Japan people in Taiwan, the evacuation of residents of Okinawa Prefecture near Taiwan, and the securing of sea lanes = sea communication routes.
