Smoke rises after previous Israeli shelling of the town of Kafr Kila in southern Lebanon (Anatolia)

The Israeli army said on Tuesday that its special forces infiltrated into southern Lebanon and cleared mines in the village of Aita al-Shaab, and Hezbollah denied that this infiltration occurred.

The Israeli military did not disclose the size of the forces that carried out the infiltration.

He said he had targeted 150 Hizbullah cells in southern Lebanon, which he said were responsible for firing rockets and drones since the clashes began.

In another development, the Israeli army said it bombed with aircraft a Hezbollah anti-tank missile launcher in the southern Lebanese town of Kafr Kila, as part of "eliminating a threat" in the area, according to an army statement.

The Israel Broadcasting Corporation reported a major army attack in Wadi al-Saluki in southern Lebanon and said dozens of sites had been attacked simultaneously.

For its part, the Lebanese news agency said that the town of Kafr Kila was hit by Israeli shells with phosphorous shells, while an Israeli tank type "Merkava" shelled homes in the town.

Targeting Israeli sites

Al Jazeera correspondent reported that a rocket was fired from southern Lebanon towards an Israeli position in the settlement of Metulla in the Upper Galilee.

For its part, Hezbollah announced that it targeted with rockets a gathering of IDF soldiers east of the settlement of Even Menachem.

A Lebanese security source also said that the authorities did not detect any Israeli infiltration in the vicinity of the town of Aita al-Shaab in southern Lebanon.

A source in the international peacekeeping force (UNIFIL) indicated that they had not received any report of Israeli infiltration across the border with Lebanon, and confirmed that they are currently examining the matter.

Suspected march infiltration

Earlier in the day, Al Jazeera's correspondent said sirens sounded in eight settlements in the Upper Galilee on suspicion of a drone infiltration from Lebanon.

The IDF noted that sirens in the Upper Galilee were the result of what it called a "false diagnosis."

This comes after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Monday for de-escalation on the border between Lebanon and Israel, warning that it deeply affects regional stability.

In solidarity with the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have been exchanging daily sporadic bombardment with Israel since October 8, leaving dozens of dead and wounded on both sides of the border.
