According to reports, the theme of this "Lantern Festival with Two Horses" is "Fujian and Taiwan are one family, and two horses are close to each other". This year, Mawei presented a total of 35 sets of lanterns to Matsu, mainly four groups of auspicious dragon shapes, two groups of 12 meters long and two groups of 6 meters long, showing the new atmosphere of the Year of the Dragon. The lantern also includes two sets of zodiac shapes of different styles, one is a paper-cut pattern and the other is a cartoon pattern, reflecting strong folk characteristics.

Chen Huifang, director of the Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Mawei District, Fuzhou City, introduced that the "Mawei Matsu Lantern Festival Customs" is the first national intangible cultural heritage project jointly declared by both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
