Every morning, Jean Zeid delivers the best in terms of innovation. This Monday, he is interested in the company FeelOFood, which offers to integrate a QR Code directly into the packaging of the food product.

This Monday morning, food safety may be through QR Codes.
By the end of 2027, QR codes will replace the good old barcodes that appeared in 1974 on products you buy in supermarkets or elsewhere.
The QR Code, this small symbol arranged in a square on a white background that you just have to pass under the camera of your smartphone to get to any information quickly: the menu of a restaurant, the conditions of use of a device, an interactive map of the region where you are located, etc etc. And why you're going to hear more and more about these QR Codes is that in 2027 it will replace the good old barcodes on consumer
product packaging What do they have that barcodes don't?
They contain much more information. Of course, there will be the price, still happy, but also the expiry date or the batch number. In the event of contamination of a series of products, the recall can be much quicker, for example.
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has decided to take the lead on this issue. She called on a start-up based in Poitiers, FeelOFood. His solution is called Foodhea. With its future QR Code directly integrated into the product's packaging, FeelOFood is betting on transparency.
What is food transparency?
The origin of the raw materials, the place where the product is processed, information about the producer, how long he has been officiating, whether he is organic or not, data on the brand, the scores and labels that the product benefits from with references to certification and labelling sites, as well as the list of ingredients with additives. And as a bonus, this information can be updated, without changing the symbol on the packaging. This is called GS1 augmented QR Code, a single QR Code that can deliver different information depending on the user, the supermarket checkout or the consumer.
FeelOFood is currently working with local producers to develop this product sheet, which will even include a health section with the nutritional content of the product and access to consumption advice validated by health professionals, not to mention recipes. The possibilities are endless.
Not all of this information can be on a label or barcode. The GS1 augmented QR Code. If. Do you still have to use your smartphone?
Are this QR Code already in circulation?
No, the solution is under development. The first complete Foodhea sheets are expected by July 2024. But it already gives an idea of the future of consumption.
