In April last year, a 25-year-old man was found hanged in a grove of trees in Hjälstaviken outside Enköping.

The case received a lot of attention, not least because the motive was considered to be revenge for an alleged rape whose report was put aside by the police, and in November five teenagers were convicted.

Three of them were convicted of murder, two of aiding and abetting, by the district court. The eldest of the brothers, who was 18 years old at the time of the crime, was sentenced to life imprisonment while the others were sentenced to juvenile detention.

But now the investigation has been resumed after the life sentenced man in an appeal to the Court of Appeal requested new interrogations with him – which were held.

A new story has been given there, according to prosecutor Moa Blomqvist, who does not want to go into detail about what was said.

"We are now working intensively to check what has emerged in the new interrogations. Maybe it will mean that we get a better picture of what has actually happened," she says.

Little brother detained again

After the new hearings, one of the younger brothers has been remanded in custody again pending the Court of Appeal hearings, which are scheduled to start at the end of January.

"We still believe that all five should be convicted of murder as they have been so involved that they can all be seen as full perpetrators," says Moa Blomqvist.

In what way the brother who has been sentenced to life has changed his story, his lawyer Ola Tingvall does not want to go into either.

"At this point, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on that. The other defendants should not be told what has been said in interrogations, he says.

All five convicted denied any wrongdoing during the district court hearing.
