Rwanda: Jordan's King concludes visit marked by the signing of new agreements

Jordan's King Abdullah II ended an official visit to the capital Kigali that began on Sunday (January 9th). On the agenda, in particular, several economic agreements, extending the rapprochement between the two countries launched in recent years

Among King Abdullah II's delegation in Kigali were the Jordanian Minister of Industry and Trade and the Director of Intelligence. The three-day visit saw the signing of several bilateral agreements, including a tax treaty for the avoidance of double taxation and memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the economic and agricultural sectors.

Over the course of a few years, the leaders of the two countries have made a series of official visits. First in 2018 and 2022 with President Paul Kagame's trips to Jordan to attend meetings of the Aqaba process, an initiative launched by King Abdullah II to strengthen international coordination in the fight against terrorism.

In February 2023, it was the turn of the Deputy Prime Minister and various Jordanian military officials to visit their Rwandan counterparts in Kigali. This meeting was followed, a few months later, by the visit of Foreign Minister Vincent Biruta to Amman last August for the signing of three agreements, including the lifting of visas for nationals of the two countries.
