The former president of Catalonia and MEP Carles Puigdemont is one of the 15 European parliamentarians who have joined the campaign activated by the Sare collective that demands the release from prison of a hundred ETA prisoners. Puigdemont supports the claim included in the document "Keys to resolution" to "open the doors of the way home for prisoners through the ordinary application of the law". Puigdemont's support is made public four days before the march that will take to the streets of Bilbao next Saturday.

In addition to Carles Puigdemont, eight other Spanish MEPs representing Junts, Unidas Podemos, ERC and the BNG have also joined the manifesto and the mobilisations. The European Parliament is made up of 705 representatives from 27 member states and in addition to the nine Spanish representatives, the support for ETA prisoners is completed by another 6 Greek, French and one Danish MEPs.

The Sare platform, together with the group of relatives of ETA Etxerat prisoners, are promoting a campaign called "Keys to resolution" with which they intend to reactivate social mobilization after achieving the transfer to prisons in the Basque Country and Navarre of all those convicted of terrorism. Around 130 prisoners of the armed gang are serving their sentences in prisons managed by the Basque Government and both the organisers and EH Bildu want Congress to change the current regulations to facilitate the release of 115 ETA members by applying third degrees and conditional releases.

"We are not asking for impunity, but to open the doors to all the modalities of serving the sentences that the law itself offers, deepening a new prison model that is more humanized and therefore fairer, recognizing the rights of Basque prisoners and also of all the people who have suffered in this country. and in this way respecting their pain," the manifesto states. The general coordinator of EH Bildu, Arnaldo Otegi, already justified in October 2021 his support for Pedro Sánchez's government as an opportunity to achieve the release of all the prisoners of the terrorist group.
