Al Jazeera has pledged to take all legal measures to prosecute the perpetrators of the occupation crimes (Al Jazeera)

Al Jazeera Media Network condemned the assassination of fellow journalists Hamza Al-Dahdouh, son of Al-Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh, and Mustafa Thuraya, and the serious injury of journalist Hazem Rajab in an Israeli shelling north of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

In a statement, Al Jazeera said that the assassination of two colleagues, Mustafa and Hamza, who were on their way to perform their work in the Gaza Strip, reaffirms the need to take all immediate and necessary legal measures against the occupation forces to ensure that there is no impunity.

The statement added that "the Israeli occupation forces systematically targeted colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh and his family, as they targeted his family and martyred his wife, son, daughter and grandson in November 2023, and Wael and his colleague, the martyr photographer Samer Abu Daqqa, were targeted in December 2023."

"The assassination of his son Hamza in January 2024 confirms beyond any doubt the determination of the Israeli forces to continue these brutal attacks against journalists and their families in order to discourage them from performing their mission, in violation of the principles of press freedom and undermining the right to life," Al Jazeera said.

"While Al Jazeera condemns in the strongest terms these ongoing crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces against journalists and media professionals in Gaza, it stresses that this Israeli approach calls for pause and attention, and requires immediate intervention from the international community to take practical and effective measures, and put them at the forefront of priorities," the statement continued.

Al Jazeera said it "urges the International Criminal Court, governments, human rights organizations and the United Nations to hold Israel accountable for its heinous crimes and demands an end to the targeting and killing of journalists."

In its statement, Al Jazeera pledged to take all legal measures to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes, and affirmed its solidarity and support for all journalists in Gaza, and its tireless commitment to achieving justice for more than 100 journalists who were killed, and its commitment to continue covering these grave violations.

Earlier, Al Jazeera correspondent said that journalists Hamza al-Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya were killed by a missile fired from an Israeli drone that targeted the car they were traveling in near the Mawasi area in the southwestern Gaza Strip.

The correspondent explained that the Israeli shelling targeted Hamza with a group of journalists while working as part of the Al Jazeera crew in that area, where civilians were displaced by Israeli shelling on several areas in the Gaza Strip.

A number of family members of colleague Wael al-Dahdouh – including his wife, son, daughter and grandson – were previously killed in an Israeli shelling that targeted a house to which they were displaced in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip.
