Spain: Pedro Sanchez meets Nunez Feijóo in a climate of rarely seen tension

This Friday, December 22, after considerable efforts to achieve this, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the leader of the conservative opposition Nunez Feijóo will meet. And this in a climate of tension that is rarely reached. So much so that they decided to meet in a neutral place: the Lower House of Deputies in Madrid. And not at the Moncloa, the government palace, as is usually the case.

The meeting between the two men, Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Nunez Feijóo, will serve at least one purpose: to agree on the amendment of Article 49 of the Constitution. From now on, we will no longer say people with disabilities, but people with disabilities.

For the rest, the two men have been staring at each other for weeks and will certainly not reach any consensus.

The conservative leader is furious that the head of the Socialist government has decided to pass an amnesty law in favour of dozens of Catalan separatists who have been convicted or are about to be convicted. They are also angry, because the mayoralty of Pamplona has recently shifted to the left thanks to an alliance between socialists and Basque separatists.

On the other hand, Pedro Sánchez protests against the conservatives' refusal to renew the General Council of the Judiciary, a kind of government of judges, which allows the right to keep control of the Supreme Court or the Constitutional Court.

There is no doubt that reproaches will rain down and that this long-awaited meeting will not allow any real rapprochement.
