Today (December 12), PetroChina announced that the annual natural gas production of the southwest oil and gas field in the Sichuan Basin exceeded 14 billion cubic meters for the first time. This marks the official completion of the first atmospheric area with an annual output of 400 billion cubic meters in southwest China, providing a solid guarantee for ensuring national energy security.

The Sichuan Basin, where the Southwest Oil and Gas Field is located, is the main producer of natural gas in China, ranking first in China in terms of reserves and production capacity. Since the beginning of this year, the Southwest Oil and Gas Field has accelerated its natural gas production, put into operation more than 340 new wells, and added more than 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas production capacity.

Yang Hongzhi, Deputy Chief Geologist of PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company: We focus on the three major fields of conventional gas, shale gas and tight gas, highlighting efficient exploration and benefit development. The 31st new industrial layer in the basin was discovered; The self-developed Tieshanpo high-sulfur gas field has reached full production, achieving a major breakthrough of "fewer wells and higher production" in the ultra-high sulfur gas field.

The geological characteristics of the Sichuan Basin are complex and diverse, and exploration and development are extremely difficult. The Southwest Oil and Gas Field has realized the rapid transformation of reserves into production through the development model of "fewer wells and higher production".

He Xiao, Executive Director of PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company: From 100 billion to 200 billion, it took us 13 years, from 200 billion to build a 300 billion strategic atmospheric area in only 3 years, and this year to produce 400 billion, accounting for 1/5 of the national natural gas production in the same period, and one step closer to achieving the goal of 2025 billion cubic meters in 500.

By the end of 2023, the annual natural gas production of Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company will reach 420 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 9.6%, and it is expected to become the third largest oil and gas field in China.

The Sichuan Basin is accelerating the development of unconventional oil and gas

In recent years, in order to further consolidate the natural gas granary in southwest China, the southwest oil and gas field has accelerated the development of oil and gas resources in unconventional fields such as shale gas and tight gas in addition to promoting the development of conventional gas resources.

For the first time this year, the Southwest Oil and Gas Field has drilled a high-yield industrial gas stream with commercial development value in the 5-million-year-old Cambrian shale formation, 4,4500 meters below the ground, and has produced more than 1500 million cubic meters of gas.

Yang Hongzhi, deputy chief geologist of PetroChina Southwest Oil and Gas Field Company: (This year) shale gas production reached 100.51 billion cubic meters, an increase of 11.75% year-on-year. This is also the fourth consecutive year that the output has exceeded 4 billion cubic meters. The average drilling cycle of deep shale gas is 100.96 days, which is 21.2022% shorter than that in 15.

At present, as the first scientific exploration well in the Sichuan Basin with a depth of more than 1,3611 meters, Well Chuanke 6 has been drilled to 15,<> meters underground, and after the successful completion of drilling, it will achieve a breakthrough in oil and gas exploration at the depth of ultra-deep and extra-deep depths in China. After decades of exploration and development, the Sichuan Basin has accumulated proven reserves of more than <> trillion cubic meters, with a proven rate of only <>%, and the exploration and development potential is huge.
