• Television Alfredo Urdaci rejoins RTVE 19 years after his dismissal

As a good man from Pamplona, Alfredo Urdaci (64) ran on several occasions in front of the bulls on the Cuesta de Santo Domingo in the running of the bulls of San Fermín and, over the years, Urdaci ended up fighting as a journalist the most relevant characters of the social panorama of our country. Not surprisingly, as a child he already said that he wanted to be a bullfighter.

Believe it or not, he was always a tremendously shy young man who found some salvation while studying at the Salesians, as they periodically staged plays. At first it was hard for him, but he gradually took a liking to it until he gained great confidence and knew how to speak in public. Two essential attributes for the journalistic profession. With a degree in Information Sciences and Philosophy, his first job as a media professional was at Diario 16 in 1983. Two years later he joined RNE, where he held several positions, including correspondent in Rome.

In 1998 he was appointed deputy director of the News Services at the same time as presenting the Telediario Segunda Edición (Second Edition). Between the beginning of September and the end of October, she co-hosted the news with Letizia Ortiz (51), who stopped working as a result of her official engagement with the then Prince Felipe de Borbón (55). "I was not an accomplice to the affair," he has said actively and passively about the Borbón-Ortiz marriage. He highlighted that she was a "very meticulous, responsible, hard-working person with a tremendous desire to continue learning". And after becoming queen, she does not hesitate to affirm that "she has always had a lot of character".

He is married to María Jesús Vallejo, an editor at RNE, whom he met while they were working the night shift. They have two children, Inés, a graduate in Business Administration and Adrián, an expert in cybersecurity. The family has not lavished itself on social events and has steered clear of using its image for profit. When TVE dismissed him in 2004, Urdaci had to rediscover himself.

He founded the communication agency Ludiana, has collaborated in different television channels, even participated as a stand-up comedian in El club de Flo, was press officer of El Pocero and a few months ago created the podcast Buenos días, España. After winning the trial against TVE, it is expected that, after 19 years, he will rejoin the public entity this Wednesday.
