The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), said on Wednesday that it was able, in cooperation with the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, to trap an Israeli force of 15 soldiers in an ambush in the central Gaza Strip between dead and wounded, while the Israeli occupation army announced the death of 10 officers and soldiers in the battles that took place in Gaza during the past 24 hours.
Al-Qassam explained that the ambush was punctuated by clashes from a distance of zero, which caused the occupation soldiers "dead and wounded," noting that the Qassam artillery and the Jerusalem Brigades then targeted the area with high-caliber mortars.
Al-Qassam also announced that it targeted 7 Israeli Merkava tanks and two personnel carriers in the Maan area of Khan Yunis with a Al-Yassin 105 shell, noting that its fighters completely destroyed a troop carrier east of Khan Yunis with a B-29 shell.
For its part, the Al-Quds Brigades announced the shelling of the military build-up of the Israeli occupation forces with mortar shells in the axis of progress east of Khan Yunis.
The Israeli army announced the killing of 10 officers and soldiers - including two battalion commanders - and the injury of 21 of its soldiers in the battles in Gaza during the past 24 hours, noting that the Golani Brigade is still engaged in "fierce fighting" in the neighborhood of Shujaiya, saying that the current phase of its operation is an advanced stage in what he called the effort to cleanse the neighborhood of Hamas and strip it of its capabilities.
The occupation army added that its soldiers confront Hamas fighters from inside buildings and tunnels, explaining that the soldiers of the Golani Brigade clashed with Palestinian gunmen who threw explosive devices at them, causing deaths and injuries of Israeli soldiers.
Israeli War Council member Benny Gantz also said that the "second war of survival" waged by the occupation army in Gaza is incurring a heavy, painful and difficult price for Israel.
Martyrs and wounded
This comes at a time when several axes are witnessing fierce clashes between the Palestinian resistance and the occupation forces in the camps of Shujaiya and Jabalia and Al-Tawam area in the north to Khan Yunis in the south, in conjunction with continuous Israeli shelling on several areas in the Gaza Strip, leaving martyrs and wounded.
A medical source told Al Jazeera that more than 40 martyrs have arrived at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis in the past 24 hours, saying that at least 10 children were among the martyrs following Israeli shelling targeting residential neighborhoods in the city.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza also announced today, Wednesday, the death of 196 and the injury of 499 after the occupation army bombed several areas in the Strip, stressing that the death toll of the Israeli aggression on Gaza rose to 18 thousand and 608 martyrs and 50 thousand and 594 injured.
