Facing the sea on three sides, Puqian Town has been an important port town in Hainan since ancient times, and is the main port for Hainan personnel and goods to go to sea. Since the Ming Dynasty, there have been Hainan people who go to the South Seas through the port of Puqian, and thousands of people go "south" through this every year. Around 1895, the Wenchang people who went to Nanyang returned to the shop after the success of the foreign country and built the Nanyang-style arcade building.

Puqian Town is a famous historical and cultural town in China, with a strong overseas Chinese culture. In Shengli Old Street, the landmark of Puqian Town, although the century-old arcade buildings have gone through wind and rain, their style still exists, the balconies and flower bars are distinctive, and the façade decorations of the Chinese and Western walls are different. The streets are lined with shops, grocery stores, barber shops, snack shops, and fishing tackle shops.

Shengli Old Street is one of the streets with the most ancient buildings in Hainan Province, with a length of about 400 meters. In its most prosperous period, it was said that "it is better to go to Puqian and Haikou than to go to the front of the shop and Haikou".

Puqian dregs vinegar is a well-known traditional snack in Hainan. On the old street, inside and outside the local "Internet celebrity" and "Linhua dregs vinegar" stores, people are noisy and full of fireworks. Put a handful of seaweed, a piece of horseshoe crab, a few conch, plus some beef offal and kelp into a bowl, scoop up a spoonful of hot and sour soup, and pour it on the ingredients... Many people make a special trip to it just for this sour taste.

Looking at the development prospects in front of the shop, Fu Chunling, who went out to work, returned to Lao Cai with her husband four years ago to do the dried seafood business, and the seafood store is full of all kinds of dried seafood. "In the past, the farthest way to sell fish was to Haikou. Now the logistics is developed, the transportation is convenient, and the preservation technology has also been improved, and the fish can be sold to Zhejiang and Fujian. Fu Chunling has expanded her store business online and her business is booming.

The prosperity of history has not faded in Puqian Port due to the passage of time. In 2019, the Haiwen Bridge was opened to traffic, shortening the journey from Puqian to Haikou from one and a half hours to 20 minutes, attracting more and more tourists from inside and outside the island to travel, shop and eat seafood in Puqian Town.

"The old street has more charm. Come here on weekends to eat authentic poach vinegar, buy some seafood, and get ready to explore the nearby countryside. Haikou citizen Chen Zihan said.

According to reports, Puqian Town is planning to build a "Sea Story" tourist block along the old wharf of Puqian Port, and at the same time increase the protection of historical and cultural heritage such as Qilou Old Street and Xibei Academy, so as to build a "coastal tourism town" and revitalize more tourism resources.
