Landing in a rocket shower: A video from Israeli television is currently causing a stir on social networks. It shows a passenger plane approaching Tel Aviv airport – in the background you can see how the Iron Dome missile defense system intercepts rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.

Television released Friday night's video after a news blackout was lifted. It was initially unclear whether there was an acute danger to the aircraft.

Numerous flights to Israel suspended

After the start of the Gaza war, numerous international airlines suspended their flights to Israel due to security concerns. But above all, the Israeli airline El Al continues to offer regular flights to and from Tel Aviv.

Two decades ago, El Al was the first airline to begin equipping its civilian passenger aircraft with a missile defense system.

Since the beginning of the war between Israel and the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas, thousands of rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel. There have also been several rocket alarms at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, for example during Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Israel in October. The military wing of the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas claimed responsibility for Friday's attacks.
