The solemn opening ceremony of the monument to Shchors took place on April 30, 1954 and was timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the reunification of Russia and Ukraine.

The issue of its demolition has been considered for several years. As follows from the statement of the Kyiv City Administration, the decision was made.

"Right now, the capital's utilities are starting to dismantle the monument to Nikolai Shchors," the message says.

It is noteworthy that earlier the monument protected its status as a cultural heritage site from dismantling. However, after that, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine called for the exclusion of a number of monuments from the state register, including the monument to Shchors.
