Xi Jinping met with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- On Dec. 7, President Xi Jinping met with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who are in China for the 12th China-EU Summit, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

Xi Jinping said that President Michel and President von der Leyen are welcome to China for the 24th China-EU Summit. Since the end of last year, the two presidents have visited each other, and the high-level dialogues on strategy, economy and trade, green and digital have yielded rich results, and China-EU relations have shown a good momentum of consolidation and development, which is in line with the interests of both sides and the expectations of the people. The two sides should work together to maintain the momentum of China-EU relations.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the world is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, and that China and the EU, as two major forces promoting multipolarization, two major markets supporting globalization, and two major civilizations advocating diversity, China-EU relations are related to world peace, stability and prosperity. China and the EU have the responsibility to work together to provide more stability for the world, more impetus for development, and more guidance and support for global governance.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between China and the EU. Standing at a new starting point for China-EU relations, we need to sum up historical experience, grasp the general trend of the world, show wisdom and responsibility, and adhere to the correct positioning of the comprehensive strategic partnership. China and the EU should be partners in mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen political mutual trust, build strategic consensus, consolidate ties of interests, eliminate all kinds of interference, and strengthen dialogue and cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. We need to work together to address global challenges and work together to promote world stability and prosperity.
