Chengdu, December 12 (Reporter Liu Zhongjun) On December 7, the main project of the Mengdigou project, the largest hydropower station under construction in the Yalong River Basin, officially started construction, with a total installed capacity of 12,7 megawatts, which is one of the largest hydropower projects under construction in China.

The Mengdigou Hydropower Station Project is located on the main stream of the Yalong River at the junction of Ganzi Prefecture and Liangshan Prefecture in Sichuan Province, and is the fifth-level hydropower station planned for the section from Lianghekou to Kara River in the middle reaches of the Yalong River. The power station is composed of water retaining buildings, flood discharge buildings and water diversion power generation systems, using concrete double-curved arch dams, with a maximum dam height of 198 meters, a project preparation period of 18 months, a preparation period of 22 months, and a construction period of 74 months for the main project, with a total construction period of 108 months.

In September 2021, the preliminary construction of the Mengdigou Hydropower Station project started. After more than 9 years of preliminary construction, the external traffic, on-site traffic and ditch water treatment projects have been completed. The Mengdigou Hydropower Station Project is invested and developed by Yalong River Basin Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., with a total investment of about 2.348 billion yuan.

It is understood that the planning and design of the Mengdigou Hydropower Station project has taken 20 years. "In 2002, we began to carry out hydropower planning in the middle reaches of the Yalong River (Lianghekou ~ Kara River section); In 2011, the pre-feasibility study report of the power station was prepared; In 2012, the feasibility study stage survey and design work was carried out, and three rounds of design optimization were carried out, and the feasibility study report was completed in 2020. In 2021, the construction of Mengdigou Hydropower Station Project was approved. Tang Zhongmin, the person in charge of the design of the Mengdigou project of PowerChina Chengdu Survey, Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., said that the engineering geological conditions are complex and the construction organization design is difficult. In addition, the terrain on both sides of the dam site area is steep, and the dam foundation has developed multiple faults and altered rock zones, so the dam foundation treatment scheme and concrete pouring scheme are one of the key research contents.

After the completion of the power station, the annual power generation capacity will be 104.459 billion kilowatt hours, which can save <>.<> million tons of raw coal every year, which is an important component measure to greatly reduce carbon emission intensity in China. It will provide a strong guarantee for consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation in the Yangtze River region, boosting the rural revitalization strategy, and promoting the high-quality development of the energy industry.
