Chinanews.com, Beijing, December 12 (Reporter Xing Chong, Zhang Su) Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin announced at a regular press conference on December 6 that after agreement with Mekong countries, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will co-chair the eighth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting with Myanmar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dansui, the co-chair of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation in Beijing on December 12.

At the meeting, Wang Wenbin further introduced the relevant situation and China's expectations for the meeting.

Wang Wenbin: The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) is the first new type of sub-regional cooperation mechanism jointly initiated and established by the six countries in the basin. Since its launch seven years ago, the six Lancang-Mekong countries have achieved a series of practical results in consultation, joint construction and sharing of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Platform in line with the original aspiration of mutual benefit and common development. Connectivity projects such as the China-Laos Railway, the China-Thailand Railway, and the Siem Reap International Airport have provided "accelerators" for regional economic and trade and people-to-people exchanges, doubling China's annual trade volume with Mekong countries in the past seven years. The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund has supported the implementation of hundreds of cooperation projects that benefit people's livelihood, such as the "Harvest Lancang-Mekong Harvest", the Lancang-Mekong Ganquan Action Plan, and the Green Lancang-Mekong Plan, bringing tangible benefits to the people of all countries.

In the face of the current international situation, China attaches great importance to and looks forward to the Foreign Ministers' Meeting to have an in-depth exchange of views with the countries of the basin on deepening the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, jointly building a high-quality Belt and Road Initiative Demonstration Zone, a Global Development Initiative Pilot Zone, a Global Security Initiative Pilot Zone, and a Global Civilization Initiative First Good Zone, and jointly building a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future in which people know each other, neighbors help each other, and develop and prosper together.
