For the regimental commander of I21 in Sollefteå, Jonas Karlsson, who also leads military operations in Östersund, the agreement did not come as a surprise.

"The purpose of the agreement is to make it easier for American forces to operate on Swedish territory. And we have already taken into account that other nations will be able to operate in Östersund.

In mid-April, American troops were in place outside Östersund, at Grytan's camp, in connection with the major exercise Aurora -23.

It is not yet clear in detail how the presence of future US troops will affect Swedish military activities in Östersund.
