Three days after Jean-Luc Mélenchon's tweet calling journalist Ruth Elkrief a "manipulator", the president of the Senate, Gérard Larcher, sharply attacked Wednesday the leader of La France Insoumise. These exchanges are unacceptable for Sacha Houlié, Renaissance MP and president of the National Assembly's Law Commission, who was invited to the Grande interview Europe 1/CNews.

INTERVIEW

A series of verbal jousting. In reaction to tense exchanges on Sunday on LCI between Ruth Elkrief and LFI coordinator Manuel Bompard, notably on the situation in the Middle East, Jean-Luc Mélenchon attacked the journalist: "Ruth Elkrief. Manipulative. If Muslims are not insulted, this fanatic will be outraged," he wrote. "What a shame! Congratulations Manuel Bompard for the reply. Elkrief reduces the whole of political life to his contempt for Muslims," he continued. Gérard Larcher, president of the Senate, then defended the journalist, addressing a "Shut your mouth!" to the leader of France Insoumise.

"The President of the Senate shouldn't say that"

These exchanges are unacceptable for Sacha Houlié, Renaissance MP and president of the National Assembly's Law Commission, who was invited to the Grande interview Europe 1/CNews. "The president of the Senate shouldn't say that. I think that in the face of Jean-Luc Mélenchon's excesses, it is up to the political class to be a little more responsible and to take a step back," he said.

"He has fully demonstrated his irresponsibility. And what you have to do in response is to put yourself at your level. Personally, I think we need to rise higher. (...) It's also a strategy to distract us from the essentials. Jean-Luc Mélenchon is in a way the useful idiot of the National Rally," he continued.
