Military and strategic expert Maj. Gen. Fayez al-Duwairi said that the ground battle of Khan Yunis differs in form from the attack in the northern Gaza Strip, stressing that it will be more fierce than the first stage, explaining that "the hand of the resistance will be supreme."
Al-Duwairi added – in his military analysis on Al-Jazeera – that 40% of the losses of the occupation army in the 2014 war between the resistance and Israel were in Khan Yunis, stressing that the Qassam Brigade Brigade – the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – in this area is one of the strong brigades and has great experience.
Al-Duwairi's comment coincided with the announcement by the Israeli Army Radio that the army had launched a ground operation north of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, after violent fire belts focused on the city in addition to Deir al-Balah in the center.
According to al-Duwairi's military reading, the occupation army plans to divide the center and south into 3 sections: the first includes Deir al-Balah, Nuseirat, Bureij and Maghazi camps, the second is the Khan Yunis area, and the third is the city of Rafah bordering Egypt.
Al-Duwairi added that if the occupation plan succeeds, "the Gaza Strip will be divided into four areas of operation, each with forces designated for the occupation army and another for the defending forces."
He stressed that the attack on Khan Yunis differs in form from the Gaza operation, which he had besieged and then began storming, as he will in the south complete each stage, and then develop it to move to the next stage.
He said the lines of separation between the provinces "are weaknesses of the defending forces" but expressed great confidence that the Palestinian resistance has overcome this dilemma.
Returning to the clashes in Gaza and its north, the military expert stressed that the areas entered by the occupation army are areas of clash and not control, adding that the occupation army is trying to benefit from its previous experiences and build on them, but it faces violent resistance.
The military expert pointed out that the occupation transferred part of the forces that were allocated to the northern Gaza Strip to the southern region and added them to the operational and strategic reserve forces in the Al-Qarara area, northeast of Khan Yunis.
He touched on the operations of the Qassam Brigades – on Sunday – in the areas of Juhr al-Dik east of the central region and the neighborhood of Sheikh Radwan in Gaza and Beit Lahia in the north, and said that they targeted tanks, personnel carriers and bulldozers, while stressing that a disaster befell the soldiers of the occupation army in Juhr al-Dik.
Al-Duwairi stressed that October 7, 2023 is a milestone in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict, commenting on Israel's disclosure for the first time of the naval landing of al-Qassam on the beaches of Zikim on the first day of Operation "Al-Aqsa Flood".
