The city administration has prepared a draft resolution of the municipality, which states that the celebration of the New Year an hour earlier - Moscow time - can "threaten national security" and will be equated with support for Russia.

The explanatory note to the document says that according to the observations of the municipality, on New Year's Eve, the use of pyrotechnic products begins as early as 23:00, which indicates the views and desire of certain groups of society to express support and belonging to Russia, which does not coincide with the values of the majority of Latvian residents.

Violation of the law on the circulation of pyrotechnic products is subject to administrative liability. An individual faces a fine of €35 to €350, and a legal entity from €35 to €1400.

Earlier, the authorities of the Belgorod region introduced a temporary ban on the sale and use of pyrotechnic products.
