Four people, including an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, have died and three others have been injured, one of them in critical condition, after a stabbing in Queens, New York, according to the BBC and CNN.

The other two deceased are a 44-year-old woman and aman in his 30s. Police, who found the bodies in a house that had been set on fire, believe they are all members of the same family.

Officers went to a block of flats and saw a man leaving with luggage at the entrance. The man pointed a kitchen knife at the officers, stabbed one in the neck and chest and struck the other in the head. One of the officers pulled out his gun and fired. The suspect was taken to the hospital, but arrived dead at the health center.

Police confirmed that they received a call from a young man who claimed that "his cousin was killing members of his family."
