The Sámi Parliament was established in 1973 and paved the way for the Sámi Parliaments on the Norwegian and Swedish sides.

On Tuesday, the 50th anniversary celebrations were held in Inari and Tuomas Aslak Juuso, chairman of the Sámi Parliament on the Finnish side, thinks it is important to remember and celebrate.

"It has meant a great deal that the Sámi representative body was established at a time when similar examples have hardly existed anywhere else. As a result of this work, we now have certain rights and a certain position in the Finnish structure. That is the result of the work. It is very important that we get to celebrate 50 years here in Inari.
