UN General Assembly during debate on resolution calling for an end to the Israeli war on Gaza (French)

Dmitry Chumakov, Russia's deputy representative to the United Nations, said US policy toward Israel "played a destructive role in the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict."

"The policy of the United States, which has long turned a blind eye to the continued construction of Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, has also played a destructive role in the current escalation," Chumakov said during a session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday evening, according to the Sputnik news agency.

Chumakov noted that the United States recognizes Israel's annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, adding, "As a result, we are facing a conflict of unprecedented scale, which carries the risk of spreading to the entire Middle East."

Unprecedented aggression

It is noteworthy that Israel launched an unprecedented aggression on the Gaza Strip that lasted 48 days, and led to the death of about 15,<> martyrs, most of them women and children.

During the aggression that began on the seventh of last October, America provided full military and political support to Israel, which was condemned by many countries.

Last Friday, Israel and Hamas reached a temporary truce during which the women and children of both sides would be released, with Qatari mediation and support from Egypt and the United States.

The truce between Israel and Hamas was supposed to expire on Monday night, but it was agreed to extend it for two more days, with it ending on Wednesday night.
