The head of state said this during the plenary session of the World Russian People's Council dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the organization.
"Our battle for sovereignty and justice is, without any exaggeration, of a national liberation nature," the Russian leader stressed.
Putin explained that Russia, in the struggle for sovereignty, defends the security and well-being of the entire Russian people.
Earlier, American director Oliver Stone said that the United States wants to deprive Russia of its sovereignty in order to seize its resources.
