Members of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades appeared in central Gaza City in a show of force that accompanied the handover of the third batch of released detainees under the terms of the truce agreement in force in the Gaza Strip.

Journalist Ismail al-Ghoul told Al Jazeera that the handover of detainees took place in the heart of Gaza City and in the presence of the public and quite easily, and pointed out that the handover was not announced in advance and the appearance of Qassam elements was a surprise.

Al-Ghoul said members of the al-Qassam Brigades were demonstrating force during the handover.

The Qassam Brigades announced earlier that it had handed over on Sunday evening to the Red Cross 13 Israeli detainees and 3 Thai and Russian detainees as part of the third phase of the prisoner exchange on the third day of the humanitarian truce, which lasts until Monday.

According to Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari, 39 Palestinian civilians are scheduled to be released today in exchange for 13 Israeli detainees leaving Gaza.
