This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Republic Petteri Orpo.

"If necessary, Finland will close the eastern border, all its points, and concentrate the reception of asylum requests in a place other than the eastern border," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Equality in Finland, Kristina Stenman, said that the decision of the Finnish authorities to close almost all checkpoints on the border with Russia threatens access to the asylum procedure.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Finland said that the border with Russia will remain closed until the flow of migrants decreases.
