Hours after the vehicle explosion, New York Governor Cathy Hochul said at a press conference that two people had died inside the vehicle and one Border Patrol agent had been injured.

"I want to make it very clear to Americans and New Yorkers that there is no indication of a terrorist attack at this time." Hochul said the car was "basically burned," leaving only the engine and some of the car's debris scattered at the scene.

In addition, Hochul said the car may be related to a resident of Western New York. Authorities believe that the car may have come from a casino, but Hochul is currently unable to confirm its origin.

According to multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation, the video reviewed by authorities showed the vehicle suddenly accelerating as it entered the Rainbow Bridge on the U.S. side, then crashed into the side of the road, spilled over obstacles, fell and exploded.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said that after the accident, the U.S.-Canada cross-border bridge near Niagara Falls was closed, and other traffic has been restored, except for the Rainbow Bridge, where the incident occurred, remains closed.
