On a visit to Algiers, Turkish President Erdogan wants to strengthen his economic ties with Algeria

Recep Tayyip Erdogan paid a 24-hour official visit to Algiers on Tuesday (November 21st). The Turkish president announced his country's willingness to increase the volume of investments in Algeria and double the value of trade, Algeria being one of the top destinations for Turkish investments in Africa.

In three years, the Turkish president has visited Algeria twice. And in less than a year, the Algerian president has visited Turkey twice. This is a sign of a relationship that is moving to a strategic level between the two Mediterranean countries.

Algeria, according to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has become the leading destination for Turkish investment in Africa. Investments estimated at nearly $6 billion. In Algiers, Recep Tayyip Erdogan recalled that 1,400 Turkish companies work in Algeria and employ 30,000 people. "We want the volume of trade between the two countries to exceed $10billion in the future," Erdogan told a news conference.

Ankara intends to develop joint projects with Algeria in the fields of defence industry, space exploration, renewable energy, natural gas and textile and steel production. Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited Algerian economic operators to invest massively in Turkey. At the same time, Turkey is becoming the leading destination for Algerian tourists in the Mediterranean, after Tunisia.
