US: White House accuses Elon Musk of 'despicable promotion' of anti-Semitism

On Friday, November 17, the White House accused the head of X (formerly Twitter), Elon Musk, of having made a "despicable promotion of anti-Semitic and racist hatred" in one of his publications on his social networks.

On Wednesday, the American billionaire responded to a tweet from one account, which wrote: "Jewish communities encourage the same kind of hatred against white people that they fight against." The post also referred to "hordes of minorities invading Western countries," CNN reports. To this message, which has since been deleted, Elon Musk expressed his agreement by replying: "You told the exact truth.

 »

For the White House, the publication merely repeats a conspiracy theory popular among white nationalists, according to which Jews have a secret plan to encourage illegal immigration to Western countries in order to undermine the white majority there. This conspiracy theory was echoed by the perpetrator of the attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, which killed 11 people.

« We have a responsibility to unite against hatred »

«

It is unacceptable to repeat the heinous lie that led to the deadliest act of anti-Semitism in U.S. history Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said in a statement, referring to the attack. "We all have a responsibility to bring people together against hate, and an obligation to raise our voices against anyone who attacks the dignity of our American colleagues and compromises the safety of our communities," he continued.

After his initial response, Musk went on to claim that the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an anti-Semitism group, "unfairly attacks a majority of the West, despite the fact that the majority of the West supports Jewish people and Israel."

«

This is because they cannot, according to their own principles, criticize minority groups that pose the main threat toward Jewish people, he added. The ADL is one of the NGOs that has denounced a notable increase in misinformation and homophobic and racist insults on X, since moderation rules changed there with the arrival of Elon Musk.
