In Madagascar, the processing of the results of the first round of the presidential election continues, on November 17, 2023. The election was contested as 10 of the 13 candidates called on voters to boycott it, while outgoing President Andry Rajoelina is betting on his re-election for a second five-year term.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) continues to update the first trends given late yesterday Thursday, the same evening of the vote, which was a first.

The latest trends at 14:30 local time (UTC+3) give a turnout of almost 40%, up slightly, but steady compared to yesterday, and again compared to this morning.

We know that this data is crucial: it will or will not allow to legitimize the victory, wanted by Andry Rajoelina in the first round, while the very organization of the election is called into question by the 10 candidates who called on voters not to vote and that the provisional turnout at midday, yesterday noon, by civil society observers, was 22%, the lowest in Madagascar's electoral history. The U.S. embassy in Antananarivo was upset yesterday.

The latest trend still gives the outgoing president a very large lead over Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko who, like him, campaigned, ahead of former president Marc Ravalomanana, who boycotted it.

These trends have been published for the first time by the CENI since the very evening of the election, thanks to the implementation of an electronic transmission of some of the minutes to the district center, from the polling stations covered by the Internet. And they will be updated again at 18 p.m. this Friday.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, the CENI will list the provisional results until they are published on November 24. Before the final results are announced in early December, when all the votes will have been collected from the more remote areas.
