At Uppsala University Hospital, for example, both staff and some patients staying in the emergency department must wear a doughnut. Chief Medical Officer Ulla Olsson-Strömberg explains why it became a necessary measure:

"There are many different patients in a fairly small area, so we see that it is difficult to keep a distance. Then there is a risk that covid-19 spreads between the patients and the staff, she says to Ekot.

Four of the country's seven university hospitals have decided on measures to stop the infection from spreading into the clinics – despite the fact that few people become seriously ill from COVID-19 at present.

"There is no ban on visiting relatives and loved ones, but you want these visits to take place in a safe way," says Andreas Winroth, chief physician of hygiene in the Västerbotten region.
