The background to the event is that an Israeli flag was burned outside Malmö's synagogue last weekend.

According to Showan Shattak, one of the organizers, about 150 Malmö residents gathered for the manifestation outside the synagogue at Betaniaplan in Malmö on Saturday afternoon.

"There are many of us who don't want these wounds and conflicts in our city. We want to heal these wounds," says Showan Shattak, who wanted to show his support as a private individual and Malmö resident.

He emphasizes that it was a broad group of people, both Muslims and Jews, liberals, conservatives and socialists, who came together to support Malmö's Jewish population.

"This is not a right-wing or left-wing issue. This is a question of humanism, says Showan Shattak, to SVT Nyheter Skåne.

The purpose of the Malmö residents' manifestation was to send the signal that "in our Malmö, everyone should feel safe and at home", the organizers write in social media.
