After the passenger ferry Marco Polo ran aground outside Hörvik in Pukavik Bay, around 150,000 litres of oil are believed to have leaked into the sea.

The County Administrative Board of Blekinge is now submitting a criminal complaint to the police against the shipping company TT-Line.

As a county administrative board, it is our duty to report environmental crimes under the Environmental Code. The oil spill causes great damage to animals, nature and the environment in Blekinge's sensitive nature reserves and fragile shore protection areas and we therefore want the matter to be tried legally, says Margaretha Lewenhagen, General Counsel at the County Administrative Board.

The incident is already being investigated by the Coast Guard and prosecutors as a suspected environmental crime.
