First Thuringia, now Saxony-Anhalt: Another state association of the AfD has been classified by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as proven right-wing extremist. This was announced by the head of the Saxony-Anhalt Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Jochen Hollmann, in Magdeburg.

The state association had already been a suspected case for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution since 2021.

The federal association of the AfD is also currently considered such a suspected case. The Higher Administrative Court of Münster will deal with the classification in February. The federal association of the AfD had filed a lawsuit against the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and is defending itself against a ruling from the first instance. The proceedings are pending in North Rhine-Westphalia because the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has its headquarters in Cologne.

The case is being heard in three cases. In what is probably the most important case, the AfD, represented by its federal executive committee, wants to prohibit the Office for the Protection of the Constitution from classifying it as a suspected case. Under certain conditions, such a classification enables the Office for the Protection of the Constitution to monitor communications and use other means of intelligence services.
