SSAB is currently the industry in Sweden and Dalarna that emits the most greenhouse gases. The plant in Borlänge has topped the emissions league for 14 years in a row. However, the goal is to change, quickly, to reduce emissions.

SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall, among others, are currently working on the HYBRIT project, where the goal is to produce "green" steel without fossil fuels in 2026.

How emissions will be reduced in Borlänge

Although the Borlänge plant is not directly involved in the HYBRIT project, other measures have already been initiated to reduce emissions locally. Among other things, several parts of the heating processes have been electrified.
