Regarding the fact that the operating company of the Russian LNG = liquefied natural gas development project in which Japan company has invested has become the target of sanctions from the U.S. government, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura said that a certain degree of impact on the project is unavoidable, and that he will consider future responses.

In September, the U.S. government imposed
sanctions on related Russian companies to freeze their assets over Arctic LNG 2, an LNG development project in Russia's Arctic Circle in which Mitsui & Co., a major trading company and others have invested, and on September 9, the U.S. government
added sanctions to the list of Russian companies in which it operates.

Regarding this, Minister Nishimura stated at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting on May 2, "This is an important project for the stable supply of energy in Japan, but I believe that sanctions against the project company itself will have a certain degree of impact.

In addition, he stated, "We will make a comprehensive judgment and respond appropriately so as not to impair the stable supply to Japan in cooperation with the G7 countries," and expressed his intention to consider future responses.
