In recent years, COVID-19 infection peaks have occurred around the turn of the year. That looks like it will be this year as well. Right now, 20 patients are being treated for covid-19 in the county's hospitals. Most of them are elderly and none of them are in need of intensive care.

The increased infection means that the region has introduced restrictions and new routines in hospitals.

"All patients seeking emergency care are screened for COVID-19 before they are admitted. We are also introducing visiting restrictions throughout hospitals. Only one visitor per patient, says Shah Jalal, infectious disease doctor in Gävleborg.

Shah Jalal urges all people in risk groups to get vaccinated.

"And everyone should stay home from work if they have cold symptoms," says Shah Jalal.
