Beijing, 10 Oct (ZXS) -- Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and foreign minister, had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on 14 October at his request.
Blinken described his ongoing visit to the Middle East and the US position on the current Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Wang Yi said that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is escalating and faces the risk of getting out of control. China opposes all acts that harm civilians and condemns all practices that violate international law. China believes that safeguarding its own security cannot come at the expense of innocent civilians. There is no way out by military means, and countering violence with violence will only create a vicious circle.
Wang Yi pointed out that the most urgent task is to cease fire and cool down as soon as possible to avoid aggravating the humanitarian disaster; Respect international humanitarian law and open humanitarian corridors; We support the United Nations in building international consensus and the Security Council in playing its due role.
Wang Yi stressed that the fundamental way to solve the Palestinian issue lies in implementing the "two-state solution", establishing an independent Palestinian state, and realizing peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel. There can be no peace in the Middle East without reconciliation between the Arab and Israeli peoples. China calls for the convening of an international peace conference as soon as possible to promote the achievement of broad consensus.
Wang Yi said that when dealing with international and regional hotspot issues, major countries should adhere to objectivity and impartiality, maintain calm and restraint, and take the lead in abiding by international law. China will continue to promote peace and talks in accordance with the basic principles put forward by President Xi Jinping. The US side should earnestly play a constructive role in bringing the issue back to the track of political settlement as soon as possible.
Blinken said that the United States supports the "two-state solution" to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli issue, supports the role of the United Nations in alleviating the situation and providing humanitarian assistance, and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China.
The two sides also briefly exchanged views on Sino-US relations. Wang Yi said that China and the United States have recently carried out a series of high-level contacts, and bilateral relations have shown a momentum of stopping decline and stabilizing, which has been welcomed by the people of the two countries and the international community. It is hoped that the US side and China will meet each other halfway, implement the consensus reached at the Bali meeting between the two heads of state, overcome interference and remove obstacles, lengthen the positive list and shorten the negative list, earnestly respect China's core interests and major concerns, and promote China-US relations to return to the track of stable development.
Blinken said that the United States is willing to work with China to implement the important consensus reached at the Bali meeting between President Biden and President Xi Jinping, manage US-China relations responsibly, and promote the stability of US-China relations. (End)
