Beijing, 10 Oct (ZXS) -- Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and foreign minister, briefed reporters on the relevant situation after holding a high-level China-EU strategic dialogue with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrell on 13 October.

Wang Yi said that the twelfth round of China-EU high-level strategic dialogue reached broad consensus. The two sides agreed to strengthen dialogue and cooperation and oppose camp confrontation. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU, which is of great significance in carrying forward the past and forging ahead with the future. The 20-year history shows that there is no fundamental conflict of interests between China and the EU, first of all, partners, and consensus far outweighs differences. China-EU relations are of global strategic importance and do not depend on or be interfered with by third parties. As two major civilizations and two major forces, China and the EU have the wisdom and ability to carry out high-level dialogue and cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and win-win cooperation, and create a new paradigm of civilizational interaction.

The two sides agreed to actively prepare for the leaders' meeting and play a high-level leading role. Accelerate the implementation of the achievements of the high-level dialogue mechanism on strategy, economy and trade, green and digital, comprehensively restart offline exchanges at all levels, activate mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and carry out foreign policy consultations and dialogue on regional affairs. The two sides are willing to actively promote the accelerated resumption of flights and personnel exchanges between China and the EU, and support more face-to-face exchanges between youth, business and think tanks on both sides.

Wang Yi said that the two sides agreed to uphold the concept of openness and win-win results and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. China and the EU are important economic and trade partners of each other, and the essence of China-EU cooperation is complementary advantages and win-win cooperation. China and the EU should maintain two-way openness, maintain the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain, and promote fair competition. We will explore the potential of cooperation in green, digital, science and technology, finance and other fields, and explore the docking and cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the EU's "Global Gateway" plan with an open attitude. China is willing to further deepen reform and opening up and create a more favorable environment for EU enterprises to operate in China. China expressed concern about the EU's "de-risking", especially the anti-subsidy investigation of China's electric vehicles, and urged the EU to avoid protectionist practices and prudently use trade remedy measures.

The two sides agreed to uphold multilateralism and cooperate to address global challenges. China and the EU should work together to address climate change, protect biodiversity, lead global green development, and effectively address global public health challenges. Strengthen coordination and cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the G20, and the World Trade Organization to jointly promote the process of globalization and better help developing countries develop.

The two sides exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern, such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Ukraine crisis, and both believed that political solutions should be sought to international hot spots, and the "new cold war" was unpopular, and provoking camp confrontation would affect the whole world.

Wang Yi said that this strategic dialogue was frank, in-depth and fruitful. The two sides will continue to maintain the positive momentum of China-EU relations, make preparations for this year's China-EU summit, promote the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations, and inject more stability into the turbulent and intertwined international situation.
