Pictures, right in the center of Paris: On Thursday evening, there were clashes with the police at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in the French capital. The security forces used tear gas and water cannons. The demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and banners. They chanted chants of "Israel murderers" and called President Macron an accomplice. The French government had previously banned pro-Palestine rallies. The resentment is directed above all at President Macron, who condemned Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel over the weekend and expressed his solidarity. Macron fears an escalation in his country as well and called for unity. France is home to the largest Jewish and Muslim communities in Europe. The radical Islamic group Hamas has called for demonstrations on Friday.
