It was decided at the regional board's working committee on Wednesday to introduce a new political organization, which is based on savings.

"In a difficult economic time where we have a budgeted deficit of almost half a billion, it is important to turn over every penny," says regional councillor Sophia Ahlin (M).

The committees to be merged are the Culture and Education Committee with the Transport Committee and Regional Development. The Health and Medical Care Committee will also be merged with the Dental Care Board and the Primary Care Board. In the new, larger committees, the idea is to instead form committees where the various issues are dealt with.

A: "Enough challenges"

In addition to the fact that the new arrangement is expected to save money, the regional government believes that it will lead to faster decisions.

"It will create significantly faster decision-making paths and, above all, reduce the burden on the civil servant organisation," says Robert Lindén (SD), chairman of the regional board.

Opposition councillor Christina Mattisson (S) says that the Social Democrats will insist on keeping the current organization during the term of office.

"It's happening without any evaluation. This is not something that should be decided by a majority of a few votes. I don't think that's a wise way to do this. Enough challenges, in the serious situation we are in, we need a stable organization," says Mattisson.

The final decision will be made by the regional council on 8 November.
